Computer engineering

The Department of Computer Engineering at Clausthal University of Technology is a leading research center in the field of modern hardware design and energy-efficient systems. We focus on the development of innovative approaches for performance and energy optimization of circuits, especially through approximate computing, where we specifically explore the balance between computational accuracy and resource usage. Our research covers the entire design chain from logic synthesis to implementation on state-of-the-art FPGAs.

To this end, we use and extend modern hardware description languages such as Chisel and Clash, which enable us to use powerful software engineering methods in hardware design. We are also heavily involved in the field of open hardware, particularly in the context of the RISC-V architecture, in order to promote open and accessible solutions for future hardware systems.
